C'mon guys. Enough of this skepticism. My mom, a Catholic, tells me that when she was in an accident about 40 years ago, she was lifted and saved by an angel (a train run over my Dad's truck, which stalled right on the top of the railroad tracks. He got out and away, my mom got out but no time to get away). She was thrown several meters away from the place of impact). She recovered from multiple fractures and broken bones several months later. More recently, about ten years ago, she was hit by multiple myeloma, a cancer from which very few survive. She is still alive and the cancer is gone. She assures me that she is here because God saved her. Contrast that with my sister in law's mom (a JW). She was diagnosed with breast cancer and 10 months later she was dead. The clear conclusion evidently is that there is a God and he is with Catholics. What more evidence do you need?

philipines disaster news up on jw.org
by Captain Blithering inhttp://www.jw.org/en/news/
wouldn't it be nice if they said 'you know what, we've made millions in property sales recently, lets donate a couple million to a philipines relief fund..'
ten vans full, probably just for jw's.

How about donating to the Red Cross so more people can be helped? Oh, I forgot, they are dying soon in Armageddon. What's the point, the money will be wasted and a bad investment anyhow. Let us help only the ones who are worth saving, and are likely to contribute to the spreading of the good news, the upcoming slaughter of 7 billion.

Their already big heads keep expanding. How about "Jehovah's Witness care..." After all the money the GB uses comes from donations from all JW's, and ultimately the heavy lifting of the relief efforts will be done by rank and file. Imagine Home Depot donating and the president of the company saying "The President of the Home Depot cares..." instead of the more appropriate reference to the Home Depot as a company.

You bet it's a great return on investment. You just were in the wrong business before. Thank you for your great service to the cause of liberating the minds of people. I am working myself. i think I got one out. Time will tell. I got 6 more to go to match your record.

A mistake in fading 4 months ago is coming back to haunt me... HELP!!
by ILoveTTATT inso today, two elders from a congregation i was in two years ago came by the house.
they said they wanted to talk to me about things that they have heard, and that they want to talk to me very quickly, as soon as possible.
perhaps before this week ends.. i don't know what to do!!

What is the best for the child if father knows TTATT and mother is a devout JW?
by Daniel1555 inhi friends.
i would like to know your opinion on the following:.
situation:.

My situation is quite similar to yours, except for the fact that I have never been a JW. My two children are indoctrinated into a religion that I recently discovered is very dishonest and manipulative. Before, I thought it was a good religion. Now that I know TTATT, I refuse to let the deception continue. My children will be enslaved and be asked to sacrifice their dreams for the sake of the whims of few old men. Hell no! Not on my watch!
I don't know what is best for the short term. However, truth is always best in the long haul. If I were a kid (of course with the mind of an adult) and were able to choose, I would ask for the truth.

Anyone knows why Matthew 11:12 is translated so differently in NWT

"from the days of john the baptist until now, the kingdom of the heavens is the goal toward which men press, and those pressing forward are seizing it".

Rob,
i just read your question again. You were asking about the version of NIV, not NWT. I am using a website (biblegateway.com), so I don't know what version it is.Yes I agree. I very strongly doubt that the writers of ancient times (between 2,600 and 3,000 years ago) meant anything other than what is written. Irony and sarcasm are features of much later times.

Thanks Rob. I am using the Bible translation in jw.org
At least there is no flagrant mistranslation as in 1 Samuel 28:12-20 (notice the added quotation marks around Samuel)
When the woman saw “Samuel,”*+ she cried out at the top of her voice and said to Saul: “Why did you trick me? You are Saul!” 13 The king said to her: “Do not be afraid, but what do you see?” The woman replied to Saul: “I see one like a god coming up out of the earth.” 14 At once he asked her: “What does he look like?” to which she said: “It is an old man coming up, and he is clothed in a sleeveless coat.”+ At that Saul realized that it was “Samuel,” and he bowed low with his face to the ground and prostrated himself. 15 Then “Samuel” said to Saul: “Why have you disturbed me by having me brought up?” Saul replied: “I am in great trouble. The Phi·lis′tines are fighting against me, and God has departed from me and no longer answers me, either through the prophets or in dreams;+ so that is why I am calling on you to let me know what I should do.”+ 16 And “Samuel” said: “Why do you inquire of me now that Jehovah has departed from you+ and has become your adversary? 17 Jehovah will do for himself what he foretold through me: Jehovah will rip the kingdom out of your hands and give it to one of your fellow men, David.+ 18 Because you did not obey the voice of Jehovah and you did not execute his burning anger against the A·mal′ek·ites,+ that is why Jehovah is doing this to you this day. 19 Jehovah will also give both Israel and you into the hand of the Phi·lis′tines,+ and tomorrow you+ and your sons+ will be with me. Jehovah will also give the army of Israel into the hands of the Phi·lis′tines.”+ 20 At once Saul fell full length on the ground and became very much afraid because of “Samuel’s” words.

Trying to overcome my homophobia.
by Julia Orwell ini had a music album by a gay guy before i was a jw and had no problem listening to it.
it's good music.
some of the lyrics are what you might call 'gay', that is there's some talk about boyfriends, gay bars, and queens and the intolerance the artist encountered as a gay man.

Julia,
I am Hispanic from Mexico and grew up in a culture where being homophobic to various degrees was (maybe still is) the norm. I am 48 and proudly can tell you that that homophobia is quickly subsiding thanks to this website in general, but more particularly thanks to a very moving post of a young JW who came out of the closet here, but feared disappointing his elder father and his entire family and congregation if he ever admitted his sexual orientation. He was forced to repressed his true feelings and live a life he didn't want to live just to accomodate the beliefs of others. This post opened my eyes to the cruelty to which we subject gay people, especially young ones, with our rejection of their perfectly natural feeling of love towards others. I have admitted multiple times that, based on the natural caring behavior towards others, women are better people than men. I will go farther and say homosexual males are better people than heterosexual males.

Smiddy,
You are sick. Two women going at it get you excited? Let me fix you. Try two hot, naked and very horny women, and put yourself right in between them. Now that's even better. Isn't it?
